Every patient is different after surgery Many young patients that come home after a spay or neuter will be quiet that night and very lively the next day This is also common for our dental patients who have received a routine dental cleaning It is recommended to monitor your pets activity at home before offering food Some may be still be too sleepy to eat, in that case, let them rest and when they are up and about, offer them a small amount of food.
When older pets are anesthetized it can take longer for their body to metabolize the medications used in the anesthetic process and they can be a little sleepy for about 12-24 hours. If you are at all concerned during that time please contact Alicia Pacific right away.
Pet’s that are overweight will also take a little more time to metabolize the anesthesia. The fat cells hold the anesthetic medications longer than other cells so the chubbier dogs will take a little longer to be active after a surgical procedure than the leaner dogs. Again, if you are at all concerned please contact Alicia Pacific right away.
